Local physician recognized by City of Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK -
Paul Ehrmann, DO, a Royal Oak family practice physician, was awarded the 2005 Community Spirit Award from the city of Royal Oak.

Dr. Ehrmann, of West Bloomfield, started his medical practice, Family Health Care Center in Royal Oak in 1982. Throughout the past 23 years, he has performed sports physicals for local athletes and volunteered to serve as the team doctor for Royal Oak Public School's sporting events.

Mostly recently, Dr. Ehrmann developed the Children's Health Initiative Program (CHIP) to address the issue of childhood obesity and teach families the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. CHIP was first introduced to the Royal Oak Public Schools in February 2005. The program will be implemented in the Southfield Public Schools in October and in the spring 2006. In the future, he hopes to see the program offered statewide.

Dr. Ehrmann is a member of the Oakland County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society and Michigan Osteopathic Association.

As the Community Spirit Award recipient, Dr. Ehrmann received a proclamation and recognition from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, and the Mayor and city Commission of Royal Oak as well as a special tribute from Governor Jennifer Granholm, Lieutenant Governor John Cherry and State Representative Marie Donigan.

The Community Spirit Award is given to an individual or organization that has made a positive difference or contribution to the community. Award recipients are nominated by members of the community. The nominations are then reviewed by the Community Awards Selection Committee. The awards ceremony was held Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Royal Oak 2005 Community Awards Banquet hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of South Oakland County.
